Montano Michelle Shaw, “Tano” entered this life on February 27, 1969, in Kansas City, MO. She was born to Willie Richard and Cynthia F. Kelly Richard. Her parents preceded her in death, along with one brother, Darryl Richard.
Montano was educated in the Independence, Missouri School System. She attended Van Horn High School, and was a member of the graduating class of 1987. She continued her education at The Electronic Institute in Kansas City, MO.
She was united in holy matrimony to Steven C. Shaw on December 16, 1995. They were known as “Steve and Tano” the unit. They had three daughters; one preceded her in death, Brianna C. Shaw. Before God blessed her with children, she was employed by Internal Revenue Service for over ten years and Harley Davidson. She had a passion and respect for entrepreneurialism consequently she opened her own day care and obtained her Real Estate broker license.
However, her call to be a wife and mother was graciously answered by being a strong supporter of her husband and girls dreams. She strongly and deeply stressed to her girls the importance of obtaining an education. She demonstrated her commitment to their education by ensuring her girls attend some of the best schools in the Kansas City School System - Foreign Language Academy and Lincoln College Preparatory Academy. She was an active and dedicated Student Assistance Counselor (SAC) member. Among the countless life lifting conversations she had with her girls, she constantly imparted her wisdom by telling them, “Whatever, you do finish what you start.”
She loved and shared a close bond with her brother. She also, loved spending time with her extended family and friends. She loved taking family trips, family gatherings and spending the holidays with her family. She never met a stranger, her smile was infectious and her voice was always steady and soothing. She was a quiet giant who would draw people unto her by her kind and encouraging words of wisdom. She was a sweet spirit with a beautiful soul.
She was a member of Mosaic Bible Fellowship where she served under the leadership of Pastor Michael Randle. She grew spiritually, and was transformed by the Word of God. Her abiding faith in God was apparent to anyone who knew her. She was proud and unashamed to tell everyone she met about her faith in God’s Word. She continued to witness for Christ by consistently praying with her family and thanking God for his grace and mercy. Through it all she kept the faith, and now her journey in this life form has ended. However, we know to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Amen!
She leaves to cherish her love and legacy: her husband for twenty-two years, Steven C. Shaw; daughters, Nevaeh and Sylvia Shaw of the home, K’Meshia Reid of Kansas City, MO, and Stenesheia Shaw of Oakland, CA; mother-in-law, Billie Jean Shaw; three brothers, Bernard “Will” Richard all of Kansas City, MO, Armondo (Phyliss) Wright of Detroit, MI, Scottie (Ethel) Roberson of Atlanta, GA; two sisters-in-law, Stephanie Shaw of Kansas City, MO, Claudia Shaw of Atlanta, GA; six Grandchildren, Aaron, Amarion, Amani, LeAsia, Arihana, D’Riyah and a host of aunts, uncles, family and friends.
